There are reports that the Boko Haram Islamic terror group has released more of the Chibok girls abducted in 2014 from their secondary school in Chibok, Borno State. While the number of girls released is yet to be confirmed, reports say they may be as much as 80. The girls, close to 300, were abducted in April of 2014 from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok where they were writing the WAEC examination. A few of them have over the years managed to escape the terrorist group while 22 of them were released in October last year after negotiations between the group and the federal government. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has decried the current situation in Nigeria where President Muhammadu Buhari is only seen on Fridays during Jumat service at the Presidential Villa. Fayose, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum chairman, unhappy with the situation said that Nigerians did not elect Buhari to function as “Friday President”, adding that he was now acting more like a ceremonial and part-time President. “That’s why Nigerians are told every day that the President said this and that with neither President speaking directly nor attending any official function. A 100 level female law student of the University of Ibadan identified as Miss Effiong Imarbong lost her life when she fell to her death during a show at her hall of residence after reportedly showing signs of restlessness. According to a statement signed by Olatunji Oladejo, the institution’s Director of Public Communications, the law student died when she jumped from a dangerous position during the show and she gave up the ghost almost immediately. A seven-man kidnapping gang which specialise in abducting unsuspecting persons in the Goronyo Local Government Area of the state have been nabbed by men of the Department of State Security Service. The long arm of the law has caught up with two suspects who attempted to break an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of a new generation bank with the intention to steal the cash in Kogi State. According to the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Wilson Inalegwu, unfortunately, one of the suspects, Akah Tersoo, is a member of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Kogi. Inalegwu said the corper and his accomplice Godwin Idih were both arrested at a branch of Ecobank on Ganaja Junction, Lokoja by cops who noticed their suspicious movements while on patrol duty. The CP said both suspects were caught on April 26, 2017, at about 2 .30am while breaking the ATM belonging to Ecobank with a digger and an axe.
